The Wild midWest

Some people backpack the globe to find themselves. I moved to Wisconsin.

Ask me anything

A whole new city.

Its finally spring time* in Copenhagen. Today, I was able to ride my bike without freezing by the time I get home. On Sunday, I managed to get a sunburn (although, to be fair Sean and I were outside from 8-4pm without a single break)

The city is like a whole new place; people are out, the sun is shining, and its hard to believe the gorgeous lakes outside of my house were actually frozen just a month ago.

Its been fun so far seeing Copenhagen with the bro; he has observed a few things that I never really caught onto; the fact that the Danes never really smile during a routine walk down the street, the fact that it’s actually kind of dirty, and the fact that it really is so, so expensive.

I think I’ve gotten a case of the “Denmark Goggles.” I’m so used to our vastly inflated prices that I no longer flinch at the thought of dishing out $20 for a single-course dinner (without drink!) or that I think 35 kroner ($7) for a bottle of Coke Zero is standard.

* Note, this post was written 2 weeks ago, and now it’s freezing cold. So cold, in fact, my fingers turned blue and swelled THROUGH MITTENS at Tivoli** on Friday. Love you Denmark. Really. Nothing says “Spring Time” like busting out my parka with fur hood and sheepskin-lined snow boots.

** It costs $15 to ride a roller coaster at Tivoli. This is AFTER the $20 entry fee to the park. However, the place is probably the cutest, most fairy-tale like place I’ve ever seen, and definitely convinced me, beyond shadow of a doubt, that I live in some kind of magical alternate reality, at least until next Monday at 2:30 pm when I fly back to the real world.
